Hampton Inn Newberry-Opera House

Pretty location would definitely come back only problems was there wasn’t really wasn’t any water unless you went to the ice machine and let the ice melt or you bring your own bottles. Also the bathroom area in my room 319 the sink/counter was kind of coming off the wall so it wasn’t very safe and I don’t appreciate that much. It could’ve really damaged my toes if it had fallen off the wall also, I don’t have any other complaints other than the drink machine not working. It wouldn’t take any of my money or anything like that. I had to go down to the second floor and still the drink machine wouldn’t work.

My husband and I were traveling on 12/26/23 and decided to spend a night in Newberry. We arrived at the hotel about 6:00 p.m. to find no one at the front desk. After waiting several minutes, we shouted out a few "hellos," but there was no response. After waiting another 7 or 8 minutes, my husband phoned the front desk thinking someone might come out to answer the phone. No such luck. He then went in search of an employee but was unsuccessful. By now we had been waiting at least 15 minutes. Obviously customer service was nonexistent , so we left and found alternative lodging. I would have liked to have stayed here, but apparently this hotel didn't need or want our business.

We were there for a football game at a school close by so that was the reason for our stay. This Hampton Inn Newberry was a nice stay for us. The town/area is small but so cute with plenty to walk around and see. There are several restaurants/bars in walking distance, be sure and check their hours, they all vary. The hotel is older and could use some updates, the elevators are major slow and have not updated to digital key entry yet. The service was great, Diamond was working the front desk when we arrived and she was so sweet and helpful. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars for the room because when we arrived it had a horrible moldy-musky smell, when my husband went down to let the front desk know about this smell they were really quick to try and fix this for us. They really do need to deal with this problem in room 407 before they book this room again. They were able to move us to another room, had 2 queens instead of a king but there was NO WAY we could have stayed in that other room. Other than this issue, the bed was super comfy, room was clean and staff was nice. Breakfast was good as well, for a continental breakfast it was as good as it can get. Would stay at this hotel again.

Chose Hampton Inn two weekends ago for the Spartan Race as historically Hampton Inns have always been a great choice for customer service and comfort. This Hampton Inn is an exception to the rule. The bathroom floor was dirty and there was barely any toilet paper on the roll with no replacement rolls available in the room. The electrical outlets between the beds was not screwed into place. My father attempted to use the fitness room during our stay but the treadmill was broken. When approaching the front staff about the broken equipment, they were nonchalant/dismissive about it, acting like it had been broken for a while. Pretty sure the only person on staff who cares at all about the guests is the wonderful woman who maintained the continental breakfast. I don't plan on ever staying at this Hampton Inn again.
